Caves “Đokova ledenica” in Plužine and “Mala kutlača” in Foča ready for tourists

With the financial support of the European Union, the access to the cave “Đokova ledenica”, the speleological object of the municipality of Plužine and “Mala kutlača”, the speleological object of the municipality of Foča, were arranged and put into function.

The cave “Đokova ledenica” was discovered more than 100 years ago. According to legend, its first inventor was Djoko Miric, a prominent cattle breeder from the village of Rudinice. It is specific for the large amounts of ice in its cave channels and in that way, it was named Đoko’s glacier.

This cave is located on the south side of the hill Opaljeni krš near the village of Pejovića Polja. The cave can be reached on foot from Pejovići Polje, from where it takes about 1 hour to walk. Another possible access is by car, we recommend (exclusively) off-road vehicle because the road is forest. A 600-meter-long forest path leads from the car to the cave.

You can pick up the necessary equipment (helmets and headlamps) for visiting the cave in the Nature Park “Piva”.

In the area of the municipality of Foča, through the project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A.)”, the cave “Mala kutlača” was explored for the first time, with a total length of 503 meters. The cave abounds in various forms of cave jewelry and is specific for its cave pillars, the highest of which is 3.6 meters.

The cave is located in the upper parts of the canyon of the river Bistrica near the village of Budanj in the municipality of Foca. It is possible to access from two directions. The first, easier access, is by car through Miljevina to the village of Donji Budanj, from where you can continue on foot over private meadows, about 10 minutes walk to the cave. Another access is possible from the main road Foča-Miljevina. From the car leads a steep path of about 130 meters altitude difference. The last 70 meters of the approach to the cave is a common part for both trails in which you should be extremely careful due to the exposure of the terrain.

If you want to spend time in untouched nature and step into the depths of the earth, these caves will enrich and round off your stay in the municipalities of Plužine and Foča!
